Ten major problems that are prone to occur when using stretch film to pack goods

1. Uneven tension

Uneven tension of stretch film usually manifests itself as the inner layer of the stretch film being too tight and the outer layer being loose. Suppose this film is used on a stretch film packaging machine. In that case, it will cause the packaging machine to run unstably, resulting in uneven packaging size, film offset, and excessive edge sealing deviation, causing the packaged product to fail to meet quality requirements.

2. Uneven cross-section

Usually, the cross-section of stretch film is required to be smooth. If the concave and convex exceeds 2mm, it will be considered unqualified and traditionally rejected. A stretch film with an uneven cross-section will also cause unstable operation of the stretch film packaging machine, film deviation, excessive edge sealing deviation, etc.

3. Wave surface

The wave surface means that the surface of the finished stretch film is uneven and wavy. This quality defect will directly affect the running performance of the stretch film on the stretch film packaging machine and the quality of the final packaging product, such as the tensile performance of the packaging material, the sealing strength deterioration or the printed pattern, the formed packaging deformation, etc. If this quality defect is very obvious, such a stretch film cannot be used on the stretch film packaging machine.

4. Excessive slitting deviation

It is usually required that the slitting deviation of the stretch film be controlled within 2~3mm. Excessive slitting deviation will affect the overall effect of the formed packaging, such as pattern position offset, incompleteness, asymmetry of the formed packaging, etc.

5. Poor joint quality

Joint quality generally refers to the requirements for the number of joints, joint quality, and joint marking. Stretch film joints should be flat, smooth, and firm, and cannot overlap. The joint position is best in the middle of the pattern, and the adhesive tape should not be too thick, otherwise, the film will be stuck, broken, and cause downtime, affecting the normal operation of the stretch film packaging machine. In addition, the joints should be marked for easy inspection, operation, and handling.

6. Deformation of the roll core

Deformation of the roll core will cause the stretch film to be unable to be properly installed on the clamp of the stretch film packaging machine. The main reasons for the deformation of the stretch film roll core are damage to the roll core during storage and transportation, excessive tension of the roll film crushing the roll core, poor quality of the roll core, low strength, etc. Stretch films with deformed roll cores are usually returned to the supplier for rewinding and replacement of the roll core.

7. Wrong direction of stretch film

Most stretch film packaging machines have certain requirements for the direction of stretch film output, such as whether the bottom or the top is output first. This is mainly determined by the structure of the packaging machine and the design of the packaging product decoration pattern. If the stretch film is in the wrong direction, it needs to be rewound.

8. Insufficient length

Usually, stretch film is measured in length, such as 200m/roll. The specific value is mainly determined by the maximum outer diameter and load capacity of the stretch film used by the packaging machine.

9. Product damage

Product damage often occurs during the period from slitting to delivery, mainly including stretch film damage (such as scratches, tears, and holes), stretch film contamination, outer packaging damage (damage, water splashing, contamination), etc.

10. Incomplete product labeling

Stretch film should have clear product labeling, which mainly includes: product name, specifications, packaging quantity, order number, production date, quality, and supplier information. This is mainly to meet the needs of delivery acceptance, storage and delivery, production and use, quality tracking, etc., to avoid wrong delivery and use.
